On See also:Sir See also:John See also:Scene's See also:death in 1837 Cockerell was appointed architect of the See also:Bank of See also:England, and carried out the alterations that were judged to be necessary in that See also:building. In addition to See also:branch See also:banks at See also:Liverpool and See also:Manchester he erected in 184o the new library at See also:Cambridge, and in 1845 the university galleries at See also:Oxford, as well as the See also:Sun and the See also:Westminster See also:Fire Offices in See also:Bartholomew See also:Lane and in the Strand; and he was See also:joint architect of the London & Westminster Bank, Lothbury, with Sir W. See also:Tite. On the death of See also:Henry See also:Lonsdale See also:Elmes in 1847, Cockerell was selected to finish the St See also:George's See also:Hall, Liverpool. Cockerell's best conceptions were those inspired by classic See also:models; his essays in the Gothic—the See also:college at See also:Lampeter, for instance, and the See also:chapel at Harrow—are by no means so successful. His thorough knowledge of See also:Gothic See also:art, however, can be seen from his writings, On the Iconography of See also:Wells See also:Cathedral, and On the Sculptures of See also:Lincoln and See also:Exeter Cathedrals. In his See also:Tribute to the Memory of Sir See also:Christopher See also:Wren (1838) he published an interesting collection of the whole of Wren's See also:works See also:drawn to one scale.
