He received most of his See also:early See also:education from his See also:father. Though he never attended any university he acquired ultimately a thorough knowledge of See also:Greek, Latin, See also:Hebrew, See also:Syriac, See also:French and See also:German. In 1824 he was placed on the Wesleyan Methodist See also:plan as a See also:local preacher. In 1826 his affer to enter tie See also:ministry was accepted, and after the usual probationary trial he was received into full connexion at the See also:conference of 1831. For two years after this he remained at See also:Brighton, and in 1833 he removed to See also:Cornwall, being stationed successively at the See also:Truro and See also:Falmouth circuits. From Falmouth he removed to Darlaston, where in 1838 his See also:health gave way. For a See also:good many years he was a supernumerary, and lived for a while at See also:Caen and See also:Paris, where in the public See also:libraries he found See also:great facilities for prosecuting his favourite See also:Oriental studies. His health having considerably improved, he became, in 1843, pastor of the Methodist See also:church at See also:Boulogne. He returned to See also:England in 1847, and was appointed successively to the circuits of See also:Islington, See also:Bristol, See also:Leeds, See also:Penzance, See also:Penryn, Truro and St Austell in See also:east Cornwall. Shortly after his return to England he received the degree of Ph.D. from the university of See also:Heidelberg. He was a patient, modest, hard-working and accurate See also:scholar.

He died at See also:

Camborne on the 24th of May 1866.
