city and the See also:county-seat of See also:Smith county, See also:Texas, U.S.A., about 115 M. E. by S. of See also:Dallas. Pop. (189o), 6908; (woo), 8069, of whom 2693 were negroes; (1910 See also:census), 10,400. Tyler is served by the See also:International & See also:Great See also:Northern and the St See also:Louis See also:South-Western See also:railways. It is the seat of the Tyler Commercial See also:College, of the See also:East Texas Conservatory of See also:Music and of two institutions for negroes—Texas College (1895; Colored Methodist Episcopal) and the East Texas Normal and See also:Industrial See also:Academy (Baptist, 1905). The See also:principal public buildings include the city See also:hall, the county See also:court-See also:house, a See also:Carnegie library and the See also:post See also:office and Federal Courts See also:building. Sessions of the See also:United States See also:Circuit and See also:District Courts, and of a See also:state district court, as well as of the county court, are held in Tyler. Tyler is situated in a prosperous agricultural region, and has various manufactures. The St Louis South-Western railway maintains See also:general offices and See also:machine-shops here.
