city and the See also:county-seat of Dearborn county, See also:Indiana, U.S.A., on the See also:Ohio See also:river, in the S.E. See also:part of the See also:state, 22 M. (by See also:rail) W. of See also:Cincinnati. Pop. (1890) 4284, (1900) 4326 (413 See also:foreign-See also:born); (1910) 3430. Lawrenceburg is served by the See also:Baltimore & Ohio See also:South-Western and the See also:Cleveland, Cincinnati, See also:Chicago & St See also:Louis See also:railways, by the Cincinnati, Lawrenceburg & See also:Aurora electric See also:street railroad, and by river packets to See also:Louisville and Cincinnati. The city lies along the river and on higher See also:land rising too ft. above river-level. It formerly had an important river See also:trade with New See also:Orleans, beginning about 182o and growing in See also:volume after the city became the See also:terminus of the Whitewater See also:canal, begun in 1836. The See also:place was laid out in 1802. In 1846 an " old " and a " new " See also:settlement were See also:united, and Lawrenceburg was chartered as a city.
