(1810-1855), See also:English politician, son of the 7th See also:baronet, was See also:born in See also:London on the 23rd of May 181o, and in 1823 succeeded to the baronetcy. At See also:Cambridge he fought a See also:duel with his See also:tutor, and for some See also:time studied abroad. On the passing of the Reform See also:Act of 1832 he was returned to See also:parliament for the eastern See also:division of'See also:Cornwall, to support the See also:ministry of See also:Lord See also:Grey. Through See also:Charles See also:Buller he made the acquaintance of See also:Grote and See also:James See also:Mill, and in See also:April 1835 he founded, in See also:conjunction with See also:Roebuck, the London See also:Review, as an See also:organ of the " Philosophic Radicals." After the publication of two volumes he See also:purchased the See also:Westminster Review, and for some time the See also:united magazines were edited by him and J. S. Mill. From 1837 to 1841 Sir William Moles-See also:worth sat for See also:Leeds, and acquired considerable See also:influence in the See also:House of See also:Commons by his speeches and by his tact in presiding over the select See also:committee on transportation. But his See also:Radical-ism made little impression either on the house or on his See also:constituency. From 1841 to 1845 he had no seat in parliament, occupying his leisure time in editing the See also:works in Latin and English of See also:Thomas See also:Hobbes of See also:Malmesbury, a recreation which cost him no less than £6000. In 1845 he was returned for See also:Southwark, and retained that seat until his See also:death. On his return to parliament he devoted See also:special See also:attention to the See also:condition of the colonies, and was the ardent See also:champion of their self-See also:government.

January 1853 Lord See also:Aberdeen included him in the See also:cabinet as first See also:commissioner of works, the See also:chief See also:work by which his name was brought into prominence at this time being the construction of the new Westminster See also:Bridge; he also was the first to open See also:Kew Gardens on Sundays. In See also:July 1855 he was made colonial secretary, but he died on the 22nd of See also:October. Molesworth was for many years a See also:great friend of Mr and Mrs Grote, and Mrs Grote's privately printed work on The Philosophical Radicals (1866) contains an See also:account of his See also:life. He married in 1844, but had no See also:children, and the baronetcy passed to a See also:cousin. His See also:sister (d. 1910) married See also:Richard See also:Ford, famous for his Handbook of See also:Spain. A Life by Mrs See also:Fawcett was published in 1903.
